Entertaiment

Entertainment ranges from the personal choice of an individual who selects his or her own entertainment from a now enormous array of pre-recorded products, to banquets adapted for two, to parties of any size or type, to performances intended for thousands and even for a global audience. The power of certain forms of entertainment to cross over into different media is demonstrated by the way in which the story of Scheherazade – from the Persian professional storytelling tradition – has inspired composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski; film directors Pasolini and Spielberg; and an innovative video game. Many forms of entertainment may also have a serious purpose in addition to the enjoyment they give to those who participate.
