Daily News

The Daily News is a morning tabloid newspaper based in New York City. For many years it held the largest circulation in the U.S., at one point reaching over 2 million copies per day. It is now owned by Tribune Publishing, a media conglomerate that was known as Tronc. In recent years it has exhibited a moderate-to-liberal bias. However, its mission remains to chronicle life in the five boroughs.

Founded in 1919, the Daily News was the first newspaper in the United States to print in a tabloid format. The paper focused on news and crime, attracting readers with sensational photos and cartoons. The newsroom was home to some of the most influential journalistic giants. Today, the paper is headquartered at 4 New York Plaza in Lower Manhattan. As of 2016, the Daily News had a circulation of over 200,000.

After decades of financial trouble, the Daily News was bought out by the Chicago-based media company Tronc. The company agreed to pay $1 for the publication. When the paper was sold to Tronc, they cut the newsroom staff in half. Despite these changes, the Daily News continued to provide strong local news coverage.

In the 1960s, the Daily News was described by the New York Times as a “high-minded” newspaper that espoused conservative populism. During the early World War II, the Daily News supported isolationism.

The paper also developed a large staff of photographers. One reporter strapped a camera to his leg when he took a photo of an execution. Another photographer sat on a bench in the newsroom as it moved from its previous headquarters on East 42nd Street to a new location on West 33rd Street.

The Daily News has been the recipient of eleven Pulitzer Prizes. Among them, it won a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2017. Throughout its history, the paper has been known to cover breaking news with unusual boldness. It has also won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary, as well as numerous feature writing awards.

The Daily News is a leading source of news in the five boroughs of New York City, and it has provided comfort and a voice to a wide range of voices, including those that cannot speak. While the paper has struggled to make ends meet, it has remained one of the country’s top-selling newspapers.

But the future of the Daily News is not certain. Although the paper has a digital edition, it is not known whether it will continue to be printed. Many employees at the Daily News are uncertain of where they will work next. Those who have been employed with the paper are now having to collect their belongings from the newspaper’s offices by October 30.

Death of the Daily News is a powerful book, examining what happens after a newspaper dies. Andrew Conte does an outstanding job of exploring the stages of grief and how the loss of a local paper can have a detrimental effect on a community. Despite this, the book offers a great deal of hope for communities who have lost local papers.
